HEIDELBERG ENGINEERING CASE STUDY

“Patients are really fascinated to see such high quality images via the infrared mode, and the detail of the veins, the cross-section of the eye and macular dip, via the SPECTRALIS,” said Optegra optometrist Jay Bhatt.

Working in the Harley Street area of London Jay sees a wide cross section of private patients, for a variety of treatments, some of whom start with Heidelberg Engineering SPECTRALIS scanning.

Since the clinic opened in January 2016 it has developed a core business for laser and intraocular lens surgery – for which the SPECTRALIS is integral for pre and post-operative care. Supporting the diagnostic and surgical team, Jay relies on the ease of use and image quality provided by the technology –

“The training and support Heidelberg Engineering provides has been excellent and the software is really fool proof. We have started using fluorescein angiography, which is easy to do and patients are impressed. As our patient base grows we expect to do much more of this work and are looking to take on referred cases.

“The SPECTRALIS has potential for use with facilitating tele-medicine, whereby the consultant can look at the images remotely, without the need to be on site. We are really looking to grow this aspect of our business and the SPECTRALIS is a key element of this,” he added.
